What’s New With the 2021 Kia Sorento?
In previous years, Kia has implemented subtle changes into each new iteration of the Sorento. With the 2021 model, they’ve decided to make some more pronounced changes to the interior and exterior of the vehicle.
Of course, this begs the question: what’s been changed on the 2021 Kia Sorento from last year’s model? Fundamentally, the 2021 Kia Sorento remains mostly the same when compared to last year’s model. However, the 2021 Sorento definitely comes with some big quality of life updates.
Let’s break down some of the new features that you can expect to see in this year’s Sorento.
Taking Notes from the Telluride
When taking a look at the 2021 Sorento, the redesigned exterior is the first thing anyone will notice. With the Kia Telluride becoming Kia’s flagship SUV since its debut in 2019, it’s clear that Kia has modeled the new Sorento to more closely resemble its larger cousin.
With a boxier, wider front end, the 2021 Sorento brings a bold new look to the model. The grille features a modern geometric design and stretches across the front of the vehicle. Both the headlights and taillights draw inspiration from the Telluride’s vertically shaped lights.
In addition, the headlights now feature “tiger eye” LED daytime running lights, which take the appearance of an orange ring around the headlights. Combine this with the Sorento branding across the rear tailgate of the vehicle, and the 2021 Sorento is sure to make its presence known on the road.
Under the Hood
The 2021 Sorento also comes with changes under the hood. Depending on the trim levels buyers choose, they will be able to choose one of two different four-cylinder engines. The first comes with an estimated combined 27 miles per gallon, up 2 miles from last year’s base model. The other, more powerful option provides a combined 25 miles per gallon, which is up 3 miles from last year’s comparable options.
As well as engine changes, the 2021 Kia Sorento is being built on a lighter and stronger platform than previous models. Weighing 119 pounds less than last year’s models and with a 1.4” wider wheelbase, this year’s Sorento provides a little extra interior space without sacrificing power.
Made Accessible for Your Lifestyle
Despite all the changes made to the 2021 Sorento, Freedom Motors USA is still bringing you the same great wheelchair accessible conversion. Our automatic or spring-assisted manual ramps are made from aircraft-grade aluminized steel and powder coated, making them able to withstand the elements and resistant to rust even in the harshest conditions.
The 2021 Sorento conversion still has many of the great accessibility features from previous year’s models, like the rear entry automatic or manual ramp that makes accessing the vehicle a breeze. Due to Kia’s changes with the body, the ramp is 28.5″ wide starting with the 2021 model years. With a 52” tall door opening and 54” of height at the wheelchair position, the conversion hasn’t lost any room from previous models and keeps its spacious interior.
All the Features You Want, Plus a Few More
The 2021 Sorento comes with a fully re-imagined interior, as well. The shifter has changed to a knob-style rotary shifter. A 12.3” fully digital instrument cluster is also an available option for those interested. A 10.25” touchscreen display means that there’s lots of potential screen real-estate inside the cabin, with the touchscreen using the “popped-out” design on the Telluride that allows everyone in the vehicle to see it more clearly.
When it comes to safety features, the 2021 Sorento comes with a forward-collision warning system, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning and a rear-occupant alert. New for this year’s model, a blind-spot monitoring system allows drivers to see a video feed of their blind spots in the instrument cluster when making lane changes.
